Requirements for Spotify music videos

To deliver a music video to Spotify, the following minimum requirements must be met.

Video format

  • Preferred resolution: 1080p
  • Aspect ratio: 16:9 or 9:16
  • File format: MP4 or MOV
  • Video codec: H.264, H.265 or ProRes 422 HQ

Audio

  • AAC-LC or high-bitrate PCM
  • 48 kHz or 96 kHz
  • Audio must be identical to the Spotify release

Content

  • Only official music videos
  • Audio and video must be in sync
  • No intros or outros
  • No lyric videos, visualizers, slideshows, text, logos or watermarks

Age restriction (Spotify 18+)

Not all music videos are suitable for all audiences, even if they do not violate Spotify’s platform rules.

Add the “Spotify 18+” tag if the video is not suitable for viewers under 18.

This applies in particular if the video includes:

  • Suicide or self-harm, including eating disorders
  • Substance use, abuse or addiction
  • Graphic, shocking or violent content
  • Sexual content or nudity
  • Repeated or strong obscene or vulgar language

Spotify uses this label to determine which content is accessible to users under 18.

Required image (Thumbnail)

  • A preview image is mandatory for all videos
  • The image must be a still frame from the music video, not the album cover
  • Deliver the image in the highest possible resolution
  • Use image type VideoScreenCapture
  • Recommended: 1920 × 1080 pixels, JPEG or PNG

Metadata and rights

  • One video per track
  • Metadata must exactly match the Spotify release
  • All rights must be fully cleared

Videos that do not meet these requirements may be rejected by Spotify.
