Create a new release - Step 4: Product info
4) Format product
Select the correct format for your release:
- Single – 1–3 tracks
- EP – 4–6 tracks (total running time 30 minutes or less)
- Album – 7 or more tracks by the same main artist(s)
- Compilation – 7 or more tracks by different main artists
Good to know:
The correct format is usually preselected automatically based on your track count.
Important distinction:
If at least one main artist appears on every track, the release is considered an Album.
If no main artist appears on every track, the release is considered a Compilation.
Spotify note:
If more than 50% of the tracks were previously released, Spotify may categorize the release as a Compilation. The release will still appear on the artist profile under “Appears on”.
Various Artists Rule
If more than four main artists are listed at product level, the release will automatically be converted to Various Artists.
This is a platform rule and cannot be overridden.
In this case, the release will appear under “Appears on” instead of the main discography.
Artist (Product Level)
List all main artists who are part of the release.
To simplify this process, you can use the “Get Artists from tracks” button.
Please note:
If more than four main artists are added, the system will automatically convert the product artist to Various Artists, in accordance with store guidelines.
Barcode
Each release requires a unique barcode (UPC).
- If you already have your own UPC, enter it here.
- If not, leave the field empty. We will automatically generate one for you after submission.
Product title
Enter the name of the release.
Important:
- Do not include “Single”, “EP”, “Album”, or “Compilation” in the title. The format is already defined separately.
-
A title consisting of only one special character is not allowed.
One-Track Releases
If your release contains only one track, the product title must exactly match the track title, including brackets or parentheses.
Our system automatically aligns this for you.
Format for series
If your release is part of a series, keep the formatting consistent.
Descriptors like "Part" and "Volume" should be abbreviated with “Pt.” and “Vol.”
Use:
- Vol. for Volume
-
Pt. for Part
Correct format example:
Title, Vol. 1
Title, Pt. 2
Catalog No.
Each release must have a unique catalog number.
- Use a combination of letters and numbers.
- Many labels use initials of the label name.
If the catalog number already exists, the system will block the release.
In this case, adjust the number slightly (for example by adding a letter or digit).
Label
Select the label under which you want to release the product.
If you have multiple labels in your account, choose the correct one from the dropdown.
If you need to create a new label:
- Select “Create New Label”
- Enter the label name
- Upload the label logo
